Nie | Romantyczni is an orchestra devoted to rediscovering nineteenth-century music—not through nostalgia, but through curiosity, research, and artistic freedom.
Performing on historical instruments, the ensemble explores a musical world far richer and more unpredictable than the romanticized image often associated with the period. This music can be intimate and monumental, elegant and raw, tender and violent. Nie | Romantyczni seeks to recover these contrasts, together with the individuality, experimentation, and expressive freedom that shaped nineteenth-century performance.
The orchestra brings together exceptional instrumentalists who are also specialists in historically informed performance. They approach music not only as performers, but as researchers: studying historical sources, instruments, playing techniques, and the conventions that influenced how musicians understood a score. This knowledge does not lead to a single “correct” interpretation. Instead, it opens possibilities—inviting the musicians to question inherited habits and make informed, imaginative artistic choices.
Alongside familiar repertoire, Nie | Romantyczni searches beyond the established canon, bringing forgotten Polish and European works back into the concert hall. Rediscovery, for the orchestra, therefore concerns both how music is performed and which music is given the opportunity to be heard.
Combining instrumental excellence, historical insight, and creative courage, Nie | Romantyczni questions not only how tradition taught us to play, but also what tradition taught us to play—making the nineteenth century vivid, surprising, and unpredictable once again.
